Open5GCore: FOKUS offers a research and testing environment for the new 5G mobile telecommunications standard

News from Sep. 11, 2014

Open5GCore provides in a prototypical form, all relevant components for a 5G network. Researchers and engineers from universities and industry worldwide can implement, evaluate and demonstrate future 5G functions.

The next mobile telecommunication standard 5G will enable a network connection with a high capacity and lower latency with a simultaneous increase of energy efficiency. The competence center Next Generation Network Infrastructures (NGNI) provides today prior to the standardization –a testbed for research and innovation in the following areas:

  • 5G Radio Support Research
  • Wireless System Convergence: LTE-A and WiFi
  • Total Convergence: Mobile, Fixed and Satellite
  • Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) & Network Virtualization (SDN)
  • Customization and flexibility
  • Software-ization
  • Complexity Management
  • Security and Robustness
  • 5G Devices and Applications
Open5GCore contains all essential components of a network: Core, radio technology support, distributed administration and virtualization. The aim is to drive the development of 5G-technology in a realistic and intuitive environment.
