FUSECO Forum Asia: International Forum for Smart Cities-Solutions was very well received
News from June 16, 2014
After years of success with the FOKUS FUSECO Forum in Berlin on the 9th and 10th of June the first FUSECO Forum Asia took place in Nusa Dua in Bali. The event was organized by PT Telkom Indonesia, Fraunhofer FOKUS and the Fraunhofer-Office Indonesia. 300 participants from 14 countries and 4 continents discussed technical and economical requirements and applications of Smart Cities.
The Forum was opened by Prof. Dr. Thomas Magedanz, Head of the competence center NGNI at Fraunhofer FOKUS, Ir. Joddy Hernady, Head of Innovation and Design Center of the Telkom Group Indonesia as well as Indra Utoyo, Chief of Innovation and Strategy Officer, also Telkom Group Indonesia.
Subsequently Prof. Dr. Radu Popescu-Zeletin, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS, held one of the keynote speeches titled „Information & Communication Technology Convergence enabling Smart Cites“. He presented the technical pillars of Information and Communication Platforms for the intelligent cities of the future and emphasized the central role of Big Data and the need for flexible business processes.
During the closing discussions on the second day, it became clear that the business cases for Smart Cities are still vague and depending on the objective can greatly vary. Commonality does however exist in the application domains to be integrated. All agreed that ensure success, a political, regulatory and legal support with respect to security and data protection are important as well as sustainability of the solutions. Bases for these are standard conform and open communications solutions.
Prof. Thomas Magedanz sums it up: "The event was a great success. We will therefore offer a FUSECO Forum Asia again in the next year. Communication platforms for tomorrow's cities are a challenge, in which industry and science worldwide are interested. So I can imagine offering the format with local partners in Latin America and Africa, too."
