Fraunhofer FOKUS encourages young academics and offers students multiple opportunities to engage in the research of Smart-Cities topics. Students can gain an insight into applied research, national level and international project work and industrial development of modern technologies. This provides specialist training as well as practical experience and serves as an ideal foundation to begin a career in science and industry. Student assistants at Fraunhofer FOKUS benefit at the beginning of their career not only from the excellent reputation of the Fraunhofer Society as well as the bundled scientific expertise.The institute offers students an interesting engagement as student assistants (see advertisement for openings) or as an intern in the scientific field. For a mandatory internship you may apply unsolicited. In addition FOKUS offers a professional support for diploma-, bachelor- and master thesis.

Through joint professorships Fraunhofer FOKUS is closely connected with university-based research. Among others FOKUS has chairs at the Technical University Berlin, the Free University of Berlin, the Humboldt University of Berlin, the Berlin University of the Arts, the Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin and the University of Potsdam. Furthermore FOKUS has a network of teaching assignments and collaborative research projects with universities worldwide.
